Why the most expensive AI isn't always the best.
Different tasks have different leaders. A model can top one test and sit mid-table on another.
Facts below come from the datasets on this site, last updated 29 Oct 2026, 14:36 UTC. Interpretation is labelled as ours. We have not tested these products hands-on.
What the evidence shows
The best-supported choice, by task, under our written rules:
- Writing and creating content: Claude Opus 5.5
- Coding and building things: Claude Opus 5.5
- Homework and maths: GPT-6.1 Sol
- Business emails and everyday work: Gemini 4 Argon
- Research and checking facts: Gemini 4 Argon
That is 3 different models across 5 tasks.
- Claude Sonnet 4.6 is rated Top tier for coding but Behind the leaders for knowledge.
We do not have verified prices, so this guide makes no claim about which models cost more.
Our interpretation
A model that leads on one test is not guaranteed to lead on the next. A single “best AI” ranking hides that. Price is a separate question again, and one we can only answer where a price has been verified.
